Band History
Hammered Nails formed in 2003 with five baby-boomer residents of Park Estates, a suburb of Long Beach, CA. The band members met through their first graders, who all attended the same elementary school. All of the band members had backgrounds in music but their careers, families and mortgage payments left them little time for themselves.
Hammered Nails formed quickly and built a studio in Signal Hill that is still their home today, 21 years later. Needless to say the Hammered Nails are like brothers and have added in one of those 1st graders as its Sax player, Ethan Rucker. Gary Leffew replaced Jack McCarthy back in 2017 and lends amazing lead guitar solos to its performances.
The Signal Hill studio became a sanctuary where the band could exercise the creative side of their minds, sample a beverage or two and get back to their early passions of playing music. Some would say music is an alibi to drink beers from around the world. We’re not sure how that rumor started……
With a mix of classic rock and roll, Hammered Nails was quickly in demand to play at school events, neighborhood functions and local night clubs. Hammered Nails has played at California State University Long Beach, Los Alamitos Race Track, Long Beach Pride Festivals, and play upbeat holiday music each year in the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade.
